We will be beginning a new unit on states of matter. We will be looking at solids and liquids. We will be incorporating the FOSS science kit into our literacy centers. As always, use this as an opportunity to engage with your child in conversations about solids and liquids in their lives. Developing academic language is crucial in the educational lives.

I want to also thank you for class donations for the Valentine’s Day party. The students ate, laughed and read their letters from each other.

I would like to ask for classroom donations of dry erase markers, colored pencils and snacks. We have been fortunate to have a steady stream of these supplies this year. They are what we use the most. Thank you so much for donating these items. The students and I are greatly appreciative of your generosity!

Library time is every Friday. Please have your child bring their books back on Tuesday, if they wish to check out new books.

Digital Storytelling: I am continuing to upload your child’s stories and pictures to my blog and YouTube channel weekly. If you do not want your child’s name or work listed please notify me. This also applies to my webpage postings which include photos of the class. Please subscribe to my YouTube playlist so you can get emails when I upload new movies.

This week’s homework consists of math practice involving dividing whole numbers into equal parts or fractions. Previously we used the language of “4 groups of 4” where now we are using “diving into fourths”. There is also reading and writing homework using a non-fiction piece about common weather sayings. Have your child answer the Brain Check questions at the end of the story. Have them write their answers on the paper provided. Please check your student’s homework for correctness and writing conventions.

I would also like to invite you to stop by and help out in the classroom. Some parents have dropped by to work and read with students. Please feel free to stop by and talk to me about any questions or concerns you may have. I can be reached at randy.cueto@tusd1.org or at 232-7460.
