Brand New Year!

Welcome! I am so excited to begin a new year. It has been a very busy day. The students have been introduced to the daily routine and literacy and math centers. I look forward to getting to know your child better and for them to get to know me better as well.

We will be focusing on reading comprehension and being able to retell a story this first quarter. In math we will be focusing on being fluent with addition and subtraction through 20. The centers will support the students in these goals. The second grade team will also be learning about arthropods this year. The students will be reading, writing and creating art relating to arthropods.

I want to t hank you for all the classroom donations so far! The items we use the most are:

  • Dry erase markers
  • Healthy snacks for recess
  • Copier paper
  • Dixon Ticonderoga pencils
  • Colored pencils
  • Crayons

Your donations are greatly appreciated.

Library time is every Friday. We will be going to the library, chess and P.E. on Fridays, so please have your child dressed appropriately and with any library books for turn in.

Digital Storytelling: I will be uploading your child’s stories and pictures to my blog and YouTube channel weekly. If you do not want your child’s name or work listed please notify me. This also applies to my webpage postings which include photos of the class. Please subscribe to my YouTube playlist so you can get emails when I upload new movies.

Homework: There is no homework for this week. Homework will go home on Thursdays and be expected back by the following Wednesday. The homework every night is to read with your child and discuss the story. Developing language is essential to your child’s development. Discuss story elements, compare stories and make predictions. Thank you.

I would also like to invite you to stop by and help out in the classroom. Some parents have dropped by to work and read with students. Please feel free to stop by and talk to me about any questions or concerns you may have. I can be reached at randy.cueto@tusd1.org or at 232-7460.
